Raj Bansal

Rajendra Bansal - A Transition from Physician to a Businessman

Raj, an alumnus of SMS medical College Jaipur, left India in the year April 1978 for Zambia, leaving MD course in its very year. From there, he passed UK exams and moved there. In 1984, he moved to USA to complete his residency and thereafter settled in Jupiter, Florida,a suburb of West palm Beach, a place where Donald Trump visits most weekends so as do a large contingent of famous and wealthy.

There, in the year 1988,he started to  practice as an Internist. At Jupiter Medical Center, he was the youngest Chief of Medicine (1993-94), Chief of Staff (1995-96) and Member Governing Board till 1997.Gradually he metamorphosed himself in to a businessman as he saw his future in private companies and insurance field. Over the years he has supported  several organizations including RAJMAI through donations. As of now, his wholly owned ventures include:

  1. Medical Services Organization - It gets subcontracts from Private Insurance companies to reduce cost of treatment and takes all the financial risk. The savings are shared by all the service providers (physicians) Insurance companies and his MSO-Health Promoters. This is his main business.
  2. Jupiter Medical Group - It provides Primary care services. It has about 15 physicians and 10 Nurse Practitioners at 9 offices.
  3. BUSINESSES WITH OTHER PARTNERS
  4. Imaging Centers - Four such centers provide imaging services including MRI, PET Scan, PET Stress, CT 64, Cardiac CT, US, Nuclear imaging, Digital X ray, 3D Mammograms etc.
  5. Staffing Services - It provide staff Radiologist and Pathologist at Hospitals
  6. Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centres - Three of such centers are in operation at the moment. These are In Patient facilities with 30, 58 and 110 beds
  7. Accountable Care Organizations - Already operational in 3 cities, it has enrolled over 275 Primary cares and 500 Specialists. It saves cost with Quality care. The profits are distributed to all the physicians. These are with our other colleagues Rohit Dandiya and Subodh Agarwal. National Success rate is only 26% but their 4/4 are all successful. 3 more are in the making in different parts of USA.
  8. Real Estate Commercial business.

Success is never unidirectional and is always mixed with failures. Raj is no exception. As he expanded his insurance business to include other physicians, he suffered huge losses. He ventured in restaurant business also but it was always making losses. Failures didn’t despair him, albeit he has learned his lesson. From here on, he started focusing on his core expertise areas. He closed all his restaurants and made Insurance Business shine again. His wife, Son and Daughter are now all in family business.

Raj’s father got ill about 5 years ago and couldn’t travel to USA every year as before. From thereon, as a rule, Raj and his wife are visiting India, every 3 months, to see their parents. His father passed away in Feb 2016 at 90 Yrs age. Initially they took to USA but It was difficult for her to travel. So she decided to stay in India but Raj and Urmila continue to visit India, at least that often to see her. Modestly, he credits his luck, family and friends for his success.

Well done Raj. Long live Raj…..
